SILVER CITY, N.M. – With the new fiscal year starting on July 1, the Western New Mexico University athletic program will now get set for the official move to the Lone Star Conference.
The LSC, founded on April 25, 1931, is based in Richardson, Texas and currently have an 11-member league including schools Angelo State, Midwestern State, Tarleton State, Texas A&M-Commerce, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas Woman's, UT Permian Basin, Lubbock Christian University (track and field only) and West Texas A&M in Texas, Cameron and Oklahoma Panhandle State University (football only) in Oklahoma and both WNMU and Eastern New Mexico University in New Mexico.
Entering the 2016-17 school year, LSC member institutions have collected 75 NCAA team national championships since the league joined the Division II membership in 1982.
The Mustangs will participate in their first LSC game on Sep. 10 when the WNMU football team will play at Eastern New Mexico University.
