SILVER CITY, N.M. – The Western New Mexico University softball team wraps up the regular season this weekend against Regis University, as five Lady Mustangs will be honored during Sunday's senior day between games.
WNMU (21-30, 17-19 RMAC) remains right in the mix for a possible RMAC Tournament bid. Currently seventh in the standings, the Lady Mustangs need two wins this series regardless of what other teams do to secure a spot. They can get as high as fourth in the standings or possibly even out of the top eight. They can also still reach the field with one win or no wins depending how other teams do.
Regis (22-19, 17-13 RMAC) is currently fourth in the standings and have already secured a berth in the tournament. Colorado Mesa will be the top seed and host, while MSU Denver and Chadron State have also punched their tickets to the conference tournament. Colorado Mines sits in fifth, UC-Colorado Springs in sixth and Adams State in eighth. CSU-Pueblo and Colorado Christian are within range of possibly getting in the tournament field, along with Fort Lewis.

Krystal Castillo (Silver City, NM/Silver City),
Alicia Enriquez (Gilbert, AZ/Mesquite),
Samantha Munoz (Peoria, AZ/Centennial),
MaryJo Granger (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad) and
Thailyza Ramirez (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad) will all be honored between games Sunday for their time playing as Lady Mustangs.
Castillo So far this season she has played in 45 games, starting 42 in the outfield. She has compiled a .276 batting average, 12 runs scored, 37 hits, six doubles, a triple, 14 RBI and a stolen base. She has been the leadoff hitter for the team this season. She tallied a three-hit game against New Mexico Highlands and Fort Lewis, while driving in two runs against Black Hills State and MSU Denver. She has eight multi-hit games and two multi-RBI games. Castillo was named to the All-RMAC Academic First-Team, marking two straight years on the list.
Enriquez has been one of the top hitters on the team this season currently at a .340 batting average. She also has 21 runs scored, 35 hits, six doubles, a triple, a home run, 18 RBI and two steals in playing in 46 games, starting 44. She recorded a three-hit game against MSU Denver and in that same game drove in a season-high four RBI. She has 10 multi-hit games and five multi-RBI contests, tied for second on the team. She did well in the classroom being named to the All-RMAC Academic honor roll team.
Munoz has played in 19 games this season, starting 11. She has a .243 batting average with seven hits, a home run, five RBI and seven runs scored. Her season-high in hits of three came at Fort Lewis and she also collected a two-hit game against Chadron State and had a home run and two RBI in that same contest. She earned All-RMAC Academic honor roll status.
Granger has logged 77.2 innings in the circle this season and has a 7.12 ERA, 1-12 record in 25 appearances, 11 starts, which includes three complete games. She has tossed two seven inning complete games against MSU Denver and Colorado Christian. Her victory this season came versus Adams State in which she logged 4.2 innings and allowed two earned runs. She was named to the All-RMAC Academic honor roll squad.
Ramirez this season holds a .258 batting average with 41 hits, 17 runs scored, six doubles, a triple, four home runs and 21 RBI. She has started every game this season. She recorded a season-high three hits against Fort Lewis and also a high in RBI of three, which occurred three times against Augustana and Fort Lewis (twice). Ramirez has 11 multi-hit games and is tied for second on the team with five multi-RBI contests.
WNMU and Regis will play a pair of doubleheaders, Saturday starting at noon and Sunday at 10 a.m.
