Softball Remains at Home This Weekend Against Fort Lewis

SILVER CITY, N.M. – Staying home for the third straight weekend, the Western New Mexico University softball team hosts Fort Lewis College this Saturday and Sunday for four more RMAC contests.

FLC hasn't played since Feb. 21 when they completed a four game sweep of Black Hills State. Their games this past weekend in Las Vegas were cancelled due to weather. They have two other non-conference wins against Western Oregon (10-7) and Colorado State University-Pueblo (9-4). They are 6-9 overall and 4-0 in the RMAC.

Three players are hitting over .400 led by Myndee Thompson's .472. She also leads the team with 16 RBI. Missy Fundora (.440) leads the team in home runs with two and Jeovanna Rios adds a .400 average. Kiley Raica leads the team in the circle with a 5.70 ERA and has two wins in logging 43 innings. Victoria Johnson leads the way in wins with four. The Lady Skyhawks hold a .320 batting average, while teams are hitting .368. They have a 7.00 team ERA and opponents have a 4.92 ERA.

WNMU (8-11, 5-3 RMAC) is also coming off of a four game sweep over Adams State, including a pair of one-run wins on Sunday to seal the sweep. Mariangela Garcia (Tucson, AZ/Desert View) leads the team with a .436 batting average. Six other Lady Mustangs are hitting over .300 including Linzy Granger (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad) (.397), Thailyza Ramirez (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad) (.397), Davi Martin (Silver City, NM/Silver City) (.365), Mary Othon (Tucson, AZ/Desert View High School) (.364), Stephanie Higgins (Escondido, CA/Mission Hills High School) (.339) and Alicia Enriquez (Gilbert, AZ/Mesquite) (.324). Higgins leads the way in home runs (4) and RBI (20). WNMU is hitting .321 as a team, while opponents are hitting .340. In the circle, Mikayla Austin (Florence, AZ/Florence ) (7.36) and MaryJo Granger (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad) (7.39) lead the team in ERA. MaryJo Granger (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad) posts the team-high in wins with three, innings pitched (52.1), appearances (15) and games started (7). Austin has two wins and leads in complete games (3), saves (2) and strikeouts (38) in 40.1 innings pitched.

WNMU and FLC will open their four game series on Saturday with a doubleheader at 12 p.m. Live stats will be available for all games.
