CHADRON, Neb. – The Western New Mexico University softball team hits the road this weekend for their longest trip of the season when they will play at Chadron State College.
The Eagles (11-15, 8-6 RMAC) are coming off of a split against Colorado Christian in Lakewood as the teams were only able to get two games in due to weather. Prior to that series, they were at home and split four games against Adams State. CSC is powered by Taylor Bauer and Courtney Lecher, as both are hitting over .300 and have combined for five home runs and 16 RBI. Katie Londo and Katelyn Kruger lead the team in RBI with both collecting 12. In the circle, Breeze Phillips has a 1.63 ERA in 30 innings, along with a 1-1 record. Kylee Polsley has thrown 70 innings and is 7-5 with a 3.40 ERA.
WNMU (9-24, 7-13 RMAC) split their Sunday doubleheader with UC-Colorado Springs this past weekend after the Mountain Lions claimed both games Saturday. Senior
Kale Gahn (Phoenix, AZ/Pinnacle High School) leads the team in batting average (.352), RBI (22) and is tied for the lead in home runs with four. Senior
Ricki Gentry (Lakeside, CA/Christian High School) is second in batting average (.344) and has added 17 RBI. Senior
Mariah McDonald (Silver City/Silver City High School) holds a .324 batting average and is tied for the team lead in triples (2), home runs (4) and has 18 RBI. Sophomore
Mary Othon (Tucson, AZ/Desert View High School) rounds out the four Lady Mustangs hitting over .300 with a .319 average. She has added 10 doubles, three home runs and nine RBI. In the circle, sophomore
Domi Shone (Gold Canyon, AZ/Mesquite) has logged 120 innings and has an 8-12 record, along with a 5.25 ERA, 22 appearances, 17 games started and 12 complete games. Senior
Amber Taynton (Lakeside, CA/El Capitan) has a win and has tossed 61.2 innings.
As far as individual rankings inside the RMAC. Gahn (38), and McDonald (36) are second and third in hits, Higgins (11) and Othon (10) are second and third in doubles, McDonald (124) and Higgins (123) are first and second in plate appearances, Shone is first in innings pitched (120), tied for first in wins (8), second in appearances (22), and second in games started (17).
WNMU and CSC will open their four-game series Saturday beginning with a doubleheader at 12 p.m.
