ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A return to The Pit will be awaiting the Western New Mexico University men's basketball team this Saturday when they face Eastern New Mexico University with tip set for 6 p.m.
The Mustangs opened the season at The Pit in an exhibition contest against the Lobos. So far after two games WNMU (0-2) has been led by
Brandon Tanter (Long Beach, CA/Los Angeles Prep)'s 12.5 points per game. He has also added six assists, a block, two steals and five rebounds.
Gavin Wood (Florence, AZ/Florence ) pours in nine points per game, while
Tyler Shea (Rancho Cucamunga, CA/Alta Loma) has added another 8.5. Shea leads the team in rebounds averaging 5.5 per contest.
Highs from the first two games were Tanter with 16 points against Texas-Permian Basin, while Shea had the high in rebounds with six. Against St. Mary's, Wood led the way with 11 points, while
Marcos Castrillo (San Francisco, CA/Pinole Valley) pulled down a team-high eight caroms.
ENMU (2-1) will play one more game tonight (Thursday) against Fort Lewis before the game this Saturday. They have wins against Texas A&M International (92-88) and Oklahoma Panhandle State (102-94). They fell to CSU-Pueblo (109-81) this past Tuesday.
Three players average in double-figures led by Michael Randle's 17.3 per game. Lawrence Domingo adds 16, while Demetrius Balark chips in 15.3. Jason Clardy leads the team in rebounds with 8.3.
The last time WNMU and ENMU faced off was during the 2009-10 season when they played a home-and-home series with ENMU winning at home, 83-68, while WNMU won in Silver City, 76-64.
