SILVER CITY, N.M. – The Western New Mexico University softball team will finally have their home opener this weekend, which will also be the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener when Adams State College comes to town.
Last year, the teams split four games in Alamosa, with the Grizzlies (2-2) taking the first two of the series and then WNMU (5-8) responded by grabbing the final two in the series to gain a split.
ASC defeated Minnesota State and Black Hills State, while dropping games against Winona State and Concordia St. Paul.
Brittani Richins leads the team in batting hitting at a .385 average, while the team hits at a .286 clip, to a .326 average for opponents. In the circle, Brandi Lovato has started two games, recording a 1-1 record and 3.46 ERA.
For WNMU, the Mustangs will look to snap a four-game slide.
Kaitlynn Barnes (Phoenix, AZ/Deer Valley High School) remains the main force in the offense holding a .469 batting average, along with three home runs and seven RBI.
Ashly Eichenberger (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon High School),
Mariah McDonald (Silver City/Silver City High School) and
Courtney Graf (El Paso, TX/Coronado High School) all have two home runs each this season. WNMU is hitting at a .264 average to a .288 opponents average.

Bri Robles (Mesa, AZ/Mesa High School) has logged 50 innings already, with a 3.50 ERA and 3-6 overall record.
Arriel Smith (Oakhurst, CA/Yosemite High School) is 2-2 with a 5.40 ERA in 35 innings of work.
