It has been a long time coming. The WNMU women's tennis team finally posted their first win of the season, and it couldn't have come at a better time. The Mustangs defeated CSU-Pueblo, 5-4. If WNMU can build on this momentum, it will help the Mustangs move up in the conference standings and receive a better ranking in the RMAC tournament, which is quickly approaching.
The Mustangs were down, 2-1, after doubles. At no. 1,
Emily Lampman (Kerrville, TX, Tivy High School) and
Nikolina Vukadin (Pale, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sredwjoskolski Centar Pale) came up with the only doubles point with an 8-3 win.
In singles play, Lampman was the first one to walk off the court with a win, beating her opponent, 6-0 and 6-2.
Dena Irvin (Farmington, NM, Farmington High School), Vukadin, and
Davida Aragon (Arenas Valley, NM, Cobre High School) all followed to seal the victory.
“The girls didn't start very good in doubles,” says assistant coach Carolina Hannes, “but we were able to show better tennis and intensity during singles play. Today was definitely a very good day for the girls.”
