The Mustangs were down 9-0 in the first game against Chadron State and then 5-0 in the second game when the purple and gold put together two big rallies. WNMU forced the first game to an extra inning but allowed one run to end the game, 11-10. In game two, the Mustangs scored 13 unanswered runs to end the game in six innings, 13-5.
On an extremely windy day, the two teams combined for 59 hits over the two games. The winds also brought the errors. WNMU (15-23, 11-11 RMAC) committed five errors in the 14 innings. Chadron (13-18, 11-13 RMAC) committed two in the first game and none in the second.
In game one,
Ashly Eichenberger (Scottsdale, AZ, Horizon High School, Central Arizona College),
Kaitlynn Barnes (Phoenix, AZ, Deer Valley High School), and
Ashley Gonzales (Queen Creek, AZ, Queen Creek High School, Scottsdale Community College) all had three hits.
Brittney Batten (Benson, AZ/Benson High School) had only one hit but brought in three RBIs. The Mustangs left 14 people stranded on the bags.
Pitcher
Bri Robles (Mesa, AZ, Mesa High School, Phoenix College) started the game and then was relieved by
Arriel Smith (Oakhurst, CA, Yosemite High School) in the fourth. Robles returned to the game in the seventh. She finished with six strikeouts and six walks in the loss.
Kale Gahn (Phoenix, AZ, Pinnacle High School) stepped things up in game two. She had three hits on her four at-bats.
Sarah Byrne (Glendale, AZ, Cactus High School, New Mexico State University), who saw time at first base and pitcher, had two hits and four RBIs, including the walk-off homerun that brought in three of them.
Emily Huhta (Albuquerque, NM, Manzano High School, Lamar Community College) recorded her eighth win in the pitching circle. She had two strikeouts in her five innings.
