Sarah Byrne (Glendale, AZ, Cactus High School, New Mexico State University) three-run homer in the fifth of game one helped the Mustangs to a 5-1 victory over New Mexico Highlands Saturday afternoon. The purple and gold then capitalized on a Highlands error in the top of the seventh in the second game of the day to improve to 15-13 in conference play, 6-4.
Highlands and former WNMU All-American, now Cowgirls head coach, Shelley Broyles are 4-25 in the RMAC with a 7-33 record overall.
Byrnes finished game one with two hits and four RBIs.
Kaitlynn Barnes (Phoenix, AZ, Deer Valley High School) posted three hits in the first victory, scoring twice. Getting the win in the pitching circle was
Bri Robles (Mesa, AZ, Mesa High School, Phoenix College). She pitched the entire seven innings and gave up eight hits and one run while fanning one and walking two.
In game two,
Ricki Gentry (Lakeside, CA, Christian High School), WNMU's designated player, went 2-for-4 at the plate, bringing in two runs.
Emily Huhta (Albuquerque, NM, Manzano High School, Lamar Community College) threw out the first pitch. She pitched the first four innings and then five batters in the fifth before
