Because of weather and a late start, the women's tennis team went to a clinch match Monday and fell to a tough top-ranked NAIA team. Concordia-Irvine knocked off the Mustangs, 5-0.
“With Concordia-Irvine having only four courts and no lights and adding the rainy weather, the Mustangs were lucky to get any match play in,” says head coach Erik Burton. “We had a few good points in doubles and some tough singles points, but it didn't go the ladies way today.”
In No. 2 doubles,
Emily Lampman (Kerrville, TX, Tivy High School) and
Nicki Duenas (Gilbert, AZ, Mesquite High School, Mesa Community College) showed great effort and fight by getting five games out of the Eagles' team.
The Mustangs dropped all three doubles matches, allowing the Eagles to take only two singles.
Davida Aragon (Arenas Valley, NM, Cobre High School) was the first loss in singles, falling 6-3 and 6-2.
Dena Irvin (Farmington, NM, Farmington High School) then last in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-0.
