Grizzlies' Growl Scares Mustangs

The Mustangs had a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning of game one, but a with bases loaded, Adams State knocked the ball out of the park to mark the game winning runs. The Grizzlies won the first game of the day, 4-2. The home team continued their rally in game two and was up, 5-0, before WNMU put six runs on the board in the fourth. ASC continued to score while the Mustang bats cooled. ASC completed Saturday's sweep, 11-7.

The Mustangs are now 5-14 overall and 1-3 in the RMAC. Adams State is 9-5 on the season and 3-2 in conference action.

WNMU pitcher Bri Robles (Mesa, AZ, Mesa High School, Phoenix College) held the Grizzlies scoreless and with only two hits for the first five innings of game one. Overall, she finished with five hits, four strikeouts, and six walks.

The Mustangs finished with six hits. Ashly Eichenberger (Scottsdale, AZ, Horizon High School, Central Arizona College) and Kaitlynn Barnes (Phoenix, AZ, Deer Valley High School) each had one and both drove in one RBI.

In game two and down by five runs, WNMU got a lift from Sarah Byrne (Glendale, AZ, Cactus High School, New Mexico State University) with a three-run homer that brought in Davina Flores (Tucson, AZ, Catalina High School, Central Arizona College), who reached on a double, and Barnes, who reached on a fielder's choice. Three consecutive ASC errors helped bring in the three other WNMU runs of the inning.

Barnes tacked on a single run in the sixth, but then ASC posted six unanswered runs to seal the victory.

Senior Emily Huhta (Albuquerque, NM, Manzano High School, Lamar Community College) recorded the loss in the pitching circle.
