Eichenberger Posts Three Homeruns In Win

Junior Ashly Eichenberger
It was like a homerun derby was happening in Silver City Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs had six bombs against CSU-Pueblo in the second game to end the game in six innings because of the eight-run rule. WNMU won, 13-5. WNMU posted one homerun in the first game, but that was all the scoring they could string together. The ThunderWolves took the first game, 2-1.

Ashly Eichenberger (Scottsdale, AZ, Horizon High School, Central Arizona College) had three homeruns on her four at-bats in the second game. Brittney Batten (Benson, AZ, Benson High School) chipped in with two. Ricki Gentry (Lakeside, CA, Christian High School) recorded the final homer with Kaitlynn Barnes (Phoenix, AZ, Deer Valley High School) posting a single-run homer in the first game.

The ThunderWolves combined for three homeruns over the two games. The first one came in the top of the second of the first game to go up, 1-0. They added their second and final run in the third after a single to centerfield allowed the runner at first to come home. The Mustangs weren't able to cut the score in half until the bottom of the sixth and left two stranded in the seventh.

Bri Robles (Mesa, AZ, Mesa High School, Phoenix College) pitched all seven innings for the Mustangs. She posted five strikeouts and two walks.

In game two, both teams kicked off their batting order with a homerun in the first inning, but WNMU did one better and followed the homer with another blast. Two more hits pushed the score to 3-1, in favor of Mustangs, in the bottom of the first. The Mustangs never fell behind with one run in the second, four in the fourth, and five more in the sixth to end the game early.

Starting the game at pitcher, Emily Huhta (Albuquerque, NM, Manzano High School, Lamar Community College) recorded the win. She is now 7-3.

WNMU is 13-20 overall on the season and 8-8 in conference play. CSU-Pueblo moves to 9-14 overall and 8-10 in the RMAC.
