Yesterday Grand Canyon had a big first inning. Today it was WNMU's turn. The Mustangs put seven runs on the board on their first at-bats to put them on the road to victory, 14-11. WNMU is now 12-19 overall with the Lopes falling to 12-11.
Pitchers
Emily Huhta (Albuquerque, NM, Manzano High School, Lamar Community College) and
Bri Robles (Mesa, AZ, Mesa High School, Phoenix College) split time in the circle. Together they struck out six batters and allowed only three earned runs after the Mustang defense committed three errors. The two teams combined for seven errors in the game and 33 hits. One key strikeout was recorded by Robles. With the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, two outs, and the game-winning batter at the plate, Robles threw three consecutive strikes that the batter took at chance at to record the third out.
Leading the way offensively for the Mustangs was
Ashly Eichenberger (Scottsdale, AZ, Horizon High School, Central Arizona College) and
Ashley Gonzales (Queen Creek, AZ, Queen Creek High School, Scottsdale Community College). Both posted three hits and drove in two RBIs.
Alisha Wyckoff (Lakeside, CA/El Capitan High School) had two hits and three RBIs.
