WNMU captured their first win of the 2011 season Sunday afternoon. In the teams' second meeting of the weekend, WNMU defeated Cal State Monterey Bay, 5-4, at the Grand Canyon Invitational. In the early game, WNMU fell to Midwestern State for the second time, 5-2.
Senior pitcher
Emily Huhta (Albuquerque, NM, Manzano High School, Lamar Community College) recorded her first win thanks to a solid performance in her five innings of play. She tallied six strikeouts and gave up only two walks.
Ashley Gonzales (Queen Creek, AZ, Queen Creek High School, Scottsdale Community College) finished the weekend with a .429 batting average, six hits, one double, one RBI, and 10 assists.
Brittney Batten (Benson, AZ, Benson High School) and
Ashly Eichenberger (Scottsdale, AZ, Horizon High School, Central Arizona College) led the team with four RBIs.
Kaitlynn Barnes (Phoenix, AZ, Deer Valley High School) had the weekend's only homerun.
The pitching staff allowed 7.55 runs per game with the opponents hitting .370.
