WNMU got another split Saturday at the West Texas A&M Tournament. The Mustangs were forced to end their first contest early. With a big eight-run first inning, West Texas A&M was able to build on that lead to end the game in six innings, 15-5. The last game proved to be much better as the Mustangs earned another win over Oklahoma Panhandle, 3-2.
After eight runs in the first inning of the first game, the Lady Buffs extended their lead to 10 in the second after a WNMU error. The Mustangs finally plated three runs in the top of the third inning but, with the bases loaded and no outs, was held up with three quick outs.
WNMU then cut into the Lady Buff lead in the top of the fourth inning with two runs to make the Lady Buff lead, 10-5.
West Texas A&M scored five additional unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth inning to finish the game.
Arriel Smith (Oakhurst, CA, Yosemite High School) started in the pitching circle for the Mustangs. She gave up seven runs in just 0.2 innings pitched.
Emily Huhta (Albuquerque, NM, Manzano High School, Lamar Community College) tried to relieve her, but that damage was already done.
Ashly Eichenberger (Scottsdale, AZ, Horizon High School, Central Arizona College) was a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate and brought in two RBIs.
Courtney Graf (El Paso, TX, Coronado High School) had two hits.
Neither team were able to get a hit in the first inning of game two, but WNMU was the first to score in the second. After
Ricki Gentry (Lakeside, CA, Christian High School) walked with zero outs,
Kaitlynn Barnes (Phoenix, AZ, Deer Valley High School) got her third homerun of the season.
WNMU tacked on another run in the third after the Aggies committed two errors. OPSU came close to tying the game in both the fourth and fifth inning with a run in each, but pitcher
Bri Robles (Mesa, AZ, Mesa High School, Phoenix College) pitched a solid seven innings to get the victory.
