The women's tennis team had a rollercoaster of emotions Friday. They first were elated to head to the semifinals of the RMAC Championship with a victory over CSU – Pueblo, 7-2, but then were stricken with grief when Mesa State stomped on the Mustangs' chance at the title, 6-1.
Junior
Emily Lampman (Kerrville, TX, Tivy High School) and senior
Stephanie Shelton (Douglas, AZ, Douglas High School) were perfect on the day with two wins at the No. 3 doubles position. Versus CSU – Pueblo, they took down sisters Cindy and Valerie Boughton, 8-2. They continued their dominance when they defeated Amber Armendarez and Cyndle Caurfman of Mesa State by the same score.
Lampman and Shelton also learned they were selected on the All-RMAC Doubles Second Team. Teammates
Nikolina Vukadin (Pale, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sredwjoskolski Centar Pale) and
Doris Berberic (Lower Hutt, New Zealand, Hutt Valley High School) were placed on the Doubles First Team. In addition, Lampman and Vukadin were selected to the All-RMAC Singles Team. Lampman, along with
Sara Nogan (Albuquerque, NM, Cibola High School), were named Third Team. Vukadin was placed on the First Team.
The team now waits to see if they move on to the NCAA Regional Tournament.
