The WNMU women's tennis team beat Metro State Saturday morning, 5-4, finishing the RMAC schedule with a 4-2 record.
“It was a great win for the team today,” says assistant coach Carolina Hannes. “We are all excited to work hard this next week and get ready for the RMAC tournament.”
The Mustangs started out strong, winning two out of the three doubles matches.
Vanessa Molina (El Paso, TX, Franklin High School, Tyler Junior College) and
Sarah Nogan (Albuquerque, NM, Cibola High School) won, 9-8 (7-5), at the No. 2 spot while
Emily Lampman (Kerrville, TX, Tivy High School) and
Stephanie Shelton (Douglas, AZ, Douglas High School) beat their opponent, 8-4, at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Lampman continued to win with two quick sets (6-0, 6-0).
Nikolina Vukadin (Pale, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sredwjoskolski Centar Pale) also found victory in two straight sets, 7-5 and 6-1, at the No. 2 slot.
The last point came at No. 6 singles with Molina. She lost the first set, 6-2, and then bounced back, winning the second and third set (7-6 (7-4), 6-2).
