WNMU had a 9-5 lead heading into the top fifth in game one, but a eight-run inning by the Mountain Lions made the score 13-9. WNMU's
Micaela Miller (Peoria, AZ, Sunrise Mountain High School, Glendale Community College) helped close the gap on her next at bat. She went from being on first to crossing home plate after a costly UCCS error.
Kortney Smith (Maricopa, AZ, Marana High School, Central Arizona Community College) then homered over the centerfield fence to bring in
Brittney Batten (Benson, AZ/Benson High School).
WNMU was still down 13-12 after five, but pitcher

WNMU left only four base runners stranded in the game; whereas, UCCS had 15 left on.
Smith finished game one with two homeruns on her four appearances at the plate.
Kaitlynn Barnes (Phoenix, AZ, Deer Valley High School) and
Rebecca Reynolds (Benson, AZ, Benson High School) also notched a homer.
Huhta was the fourth WNMU pitcher of the game to make an appearance and recorded the win (5-0).
