WNMU Says Goodbye to Five Seniors Saturday

Saturday will be the final home game for five WNMU senior basketball student-athletes. Come and support your Mustangs as they bid farewell to Dana Alexander (Fort Worth, TX, Arlington Heights High School, Kilgore College; East Texas Baptist University), Krystal Davis (Fort Worth, TX, North Crowley High School, South Plains Junior College), Audra Major (Socorro, NM, Socorro High School, Midland Community College), Ashley Vigil (Albuquerque, NM, Sandia High School), and Justin Williams (Phoenix, AZ, Paradise Valley High School, Phoenix College).

Hailing from Fort Worth, Texas, Alexander came to WNMU via Kilgore College and East Texas Baptist University. She finishes out her collegiate career wearing a purple and gold jersey the last two years. Playing in 48 games as a Mustang, Alexander has averaged 18.6 minutes a game while contributing 7.3 points and 5.3 rebounds. She led the team in blocks the last two seasons, stopping 51 of her opponents' shots. Her best performance at WNMU came just last weekend when she was named the RMAC West Division Player of the Week. Alexander led the team in shooting percentage at .650, free throw percentage at .760, blocks with five, and points with 20.0 per game in the two home wins over Western State and Mesa State. Last Thursday against the Mountaineers, she led the team to victory with a 23-point, nine-rebound performance. Against the Mavericks, she posted 17 points, six caroms, three assists, and one steal. Alexander will graduate in this spring with a business degree.

Also from Fort Worth Texas, Davis attended South Plains Junior College prior to WNMU and has been a consistent player since her arrival. She averaged 27.2 minutes of play, 10.5 points, and 5.2 rebounds last season and was almost the same this season with 30.0 minutes, 10.4 points, and 5.4 rebounds. Many of her points over the past two years have been from the three-point line. She has recorded 86 threes and ranks fifth in this category when looking at WNMU players over the past ten years. Davis has two honors under her belt since her arrival in Silver City. She was named the RMAC West Division Player of the Week once last year and placed on the DFW Marriott Champions Circle Pioneer Premiere All-Tournament Team this past November. Majoring in psychology, Davis will graduate this May. Please put your hands together for Krystal Davis (Fort Worth, TX/North Crowley High School).

Major has had three very successful seasons as a Mustang. For the past two years, the Socorro-native has led the team in points and rebounds. Last season she averaged 16.8 points while snagging 9.2 rebounds each game. She was then named to the RMAC First Team All-West, RMAC First Team All-Academic, Daktronics Division II All-Central Region Second Team, and Dixie State College All-Tournament Team. She also earned RMAC West Division Player of the Week twice and named WNMU Female Student-Athlete of the Year. This season Major averaged 14.1 points overall and 17.9 points in conference play and 7.6 rebounds overall and 8.5 rebounds in conference play. So far the senior has been placed on the All-Academic Team Honorable Mention. On her career, she has scored 902 points and grabbed 489 rebounds, more than any other WNMU women's basketball player over the last 10 years. Over a quarter of Major's points have come from the free throw line, sinking 263 of her 324attempts. She has also shot an amazing .481 percent from the floor. Major will graduate next year and earn her degree in movement science.

For the past four years, Vigil has been a constant fixture in the Mustang line-up. From Albuquerque, New Mexico, Vigil started her collegiate career with a bang, earning All-RMAC Honorable Mention honors for her 7.7 points, 2.0 rebounds, and three assists per game. Her numbers improved over the next two years with her best coming last year. She finished her junior season with 11.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.12 assists per game. Overall, Vigil has averaged 9.0 points in her four years while grabbing 2.8 rebounds and dishing out 3.5 assists. She finishes just behind Major on the “last ten years list” in career points with 856 points. She does, however, top the list in assists with 329 hand-offs. A member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council for the past four years, Vigil will graduate this spring with a degree in chemistry.

Hailing from Phoenix, Arizona, Williams is a three-year letter winner and two-year starter. He has amassed over 600 points in his career. Comparing his last three years, this season has been his most productive. He is averaging over 13 points a game while dishing out 5 assists a contest. Williams leads the RMAC in assists per game and also minutes played. He also ranks third in assist to turnover ratio with 1.9 and in the top 25 in scoring and three point field goal percentage. This year's captain has proved to be one of the best guards WNMU has had over the last ten years. Williams has 248 career assists, placing him third among the last decade of players, and in the top ten in steals, free throws made, and minutes played. Williams will graduate with a degree in movement science.
