It was another great day for the WNMU women's tennis team. The Mustangs clinched their second win of the season by beating Academy of Arts, 5-4.
The team started off strong, winning two out of the three doubles matches.
Stephanie Shelton (Douglas, AZ, Douglas High School) and
Emily Lampman (Kerrville, TX, Tivy High School) beat their opponent, 8-3; whereas
Vanessa Molina (El Paso, TX, Franklin High School, Tyler Junior College) and
Sarah Nogan (Albuquerque, NM, Cibola High School) gave no chance to their opponent with a 8-0 win.
Keeping up the momentum, both Molina and Nogan won their singles match as well, 6-2, 6-4 and 6-3, 6-1 respectively.
On the other hand, the top four girls had more trouble with their singles match, but
Nikolina Vukadin (Pale, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sredwjoskolski Centar Pale) earned the last point for the Mustangs by winning the third set tie breaker, 10-7.
“Tonight wasn't an easy match,” says assistant head coach Carolina Hannes. “All the players were physically and emotionally tired from the previous matches. However, they worked as a team, pumping each other up and being able to come up with a great intensity. The intensity and the desire of the team are showing and made a difference at the end of the matches.”
