Mustangs Snap Five Game Losing Streak

The Mustangs have lost quite a few games this year because of unforced errors. Tuesday the pendulum finally turned, and Grand Canyon was on the losing end. The Mustangs snapped a five-game losing streak, 4-3, after Grand Canyon committed five red marks.

Western New Mexico scored three unearned runs, cashing in on one in the first when Kortney Smith (Maricopa, AZ, Marana High School, Central Arizona Community College), who went 2 for 3 with a walk, scored after striking out and then reaching base on an error. The Mustangs added two runs in the fourth when the first two batters reached base on successive errors and later scored.

WNMU's Priscilla Garcia (Albuquerque, NM/St. Pius X High School) picked up the win, improving to 10-14. She allowed seven hits, two earned runs and two walks, while fanning four.

WNMU's Smith and Stephanie Bisgard (Scottsdale, AZ, Coronado High School, Mesa Community College) each had two hits in three trips to the plate.

The Mustangs will conclude their home stand versus Grand Canyon University on Wednesday afternoon in their final doubleheader in Mustang Stadium this season.
