With only four teams playing in the RMAC because of weather conditions, the Mustangs hoped to get some much needed wins to earn a spot in the RMAC Conference Tournament held in two weeks. The problem? A huge roadblock – the Mesa State College Mavericks. MSC came out on top Saturday afternoon, 8-3 and 11-6.
In both games, the Mustangs tied the game at two each in the second inning. Four Maverick runs in the fifth of each game gave the Mavericks the lead and the victories.
The Mavericks outhit the Mustangs, 27-19. Six of those Maverick hits were homeruns.
The leading hitter for the Mustangs was
Sarah Almanza (El Paso, TX, JM Hank High School, Ranger Junior College). She finished the two losses with five hits on seven attempts. The Mustangs also got strong hits from
Courtney Graf (El Paso, TX, Coronado High School) who finished with three.
Mesa State quieted conference power hitter
Kristina Barr (San Diego, CA, La Costa Canyon High School, Central Community College) as she converted on only two hits on eight chances.
The Mustangs will finish out the weekend series tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.
