Regis Completes the Sweep

Freshman Brittney Batten (Benson, AZ)
The Mustangs dropped two more games to Regis University on Sunday, 6-2 and 9-3, to give the Rangers the conference sweep. WNMU now falls to 4-12 overall and 2-6 in RMAC play.

Game one was dominated by the Rangers immediately. The Denver team nailed a grand slam and one other run in the top of the second to take the 5-0 lead. The Mustangs could only muster one run in the bottom of the second and one more in the sixth, while the Rangers tacked on one more insurance run in the top of the sixth to finish out the game.

Kortney Smith (Maricopa, AZ, Marana High School, Central Arizona Community College) and Stephanie Bisgard (Scottsdale, AZ, Coronado High School, Mesa Community College) combined for four of the Mustangs' seven hits.

Senior Priscilla Garcia (Albuquerque, NM, St. Pius X High School) recorded the loss in six innings pitched. She posted four strikeouts, six hits, and six runs.

Game two started off much better for the Mustangs. Smith first tripled to right field. The next batter, Rebecca Reynolds (Benson, AZ, Benson High School), then singled to left field to bring in Smith. The Mustang run was short lived however.

In the third, Regis started their scoring rampage. The Rangers scored three runs in the third, one in the fourth, one more in the fifth, another in the six, and then three additional runs in the seventh. The Mustangs never caught up.

Smith, again, had two hits. Brittney Batten (Benson, AZ, Benson High School) also was successful with the bat, connecting on two of three at bats.
