The Mustangs come back from Denver, Colorado with four straight losses over the weekend. The no. 20 Metro State softball team swept Western New Mexico Sunday afternoon, 3-2 in nine innings in game one and 14-1 in five innings in game two. WNMU dropped to 4-16 overall and 2-10 in the RMAC.

In game one, the Metro State Roadrunners scored two in the first inning after a two-run single to center, but Mustang pitcher Priscilla Garcia (Albuquerque, NM, St. Pius X High School) sailed through much of the game without another hit until the sixth inning.

Meanwhile, the Mustangs got on the board in the fourth as Kaitlynn Barnes (Phoenix, AZ, Deer Valley High School) hit a homerun to right-center. They added another in the fifth to tie the game at 2-2 and force extra innings.

With two outs in the ninth, Garcia hit two straight Metro State batters to put the winning run in scoring position. Metro's Kellie Nishikida then delivered the game-winning single, a line drive to right-center to score a run to win the game.

In game two, Metro State scored four runs in the first and nine in the second to coast to a 14-1 victory. The lone WNMU run was a homerun by Stephanie Bisgard (Scottsdale, AZ/Coronado High School) in the top of the second.

Bisgard, Kristina Barr (San Diego, CA, La Costa Canyon High School, Central Community College), and Kortney Smith (Maricopa, AZ, Marana High School, Central Arizona Community College) all finished the weekend with three hits and two RBIs. Two of Bisgard's hits and RBIs were from homeruns.
