Devin Stewart (Tucson, AZ, Santa Rita High School, Saddleback Junior College) finished his collegiate career on a high note. With 1:44 left to play in the first half, he notched 1000 career points. He finished with a season-high 30 points. Finally, he helped lead the team to victory over Adams State College, 87-77. The Mustangs cap off the 2008-2009 season winning their final two games and finishing 10-17 overall.
Saturday's game went back and forth for the first ten minutes, but WNMU did not let Adams State lead by more than one point throughout first ten minutes of the first half. Finally, with just under five minutes left to play before intermission, the Mustangs put together a 16-6 run to finish the half with a 12-point advantage.
The second twenty minutes were all Mustangs.
Andy Sohlich (Battle Creek, MI, St. Phillip Catholic Central High School, Western Texas Community College; Eldon Academy Prep) went 3-for-3 from behind the arc in the second half; whereas,
Steve Berrelleza (Phoenix, AZ, Mountain Pointe High School, Scottsdale Community College) drained two from three-point land. This helped the WNMU lead stretch to 21 two separate times.
Adams State dominated in the paint with 44 points. The Mustangs only posted 32. The purple and gold did, however, capitalize on Adams State's turnovers, having the 27-14 point advantage.
Stewart led all scorers with his 30 points. He also led the two teams in the assists category (9).
DJ Nicholas (Glendale, AZ, Glendale High School) followed Stewart with 13 points.
