Terra Dunlap enters her 18th year as Head Athletic Trainer at Western New Mexico University and continues to serve as both Assistant Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator. A longtime member of the Mustang staff, Dunlap plays a vital role in the health, leadership, and well-being of WNMU student-athletes.
She returned to WNMU Athletics in 2007 as the Women’s Athletic Trainer and Assistant Volleyball Coach. In 2010, she was promoted to Head Athletic Trainer and shifted her focus entirely to athletic training, stepping away from coaching to lead the university’s sports medicine program.
Since then, Dunlap has taken on additional leadership roles within the department. She was named Senior Woman Administrator in 2011 and Assistant Athletic Director in 2016. She also helped launch the Student-Athlete Wellness Committee, which brings together campus stakeholders to provide student-athletes with educational workshops and resources focused on holistic well-being.
In her current role, she also serves as WNMU’s NCAA Athletics Healthcare Administrator and oversees institutional drug testing and insurance coordination. Beyond athletics, Dunlap contributes to the university’s academic mission as an adjunct faculty member, teaching courses in athletic training, coaching, and physical education.
A proud WNMU alumna, Dunlap earned her bachelor's degree in movement science and was a four-year member of the Mustang volleyball team from 1996 to 2000. She went on to complete her master’s degree in athletic training from Montana State University Billings.
Originally from Virden, New Mexico, Dunlap now lives in Silver City with her husband, Steve, and their daughters, Katie and Harper.
