Matt Enriquez, a longtime Mustang, moved from assistant to head coach near the end of 2015 as he was named the interim head women's basketball coach on Dec. 28, 2015. Prior to his recent appointment he was in his 10th year as a Mustang assistant with the men's program and his 14th in the basketball program. After a stellar playing career where the El Paso native amassed over 1500 points, 340 rebounds, and a career scoring average of 15 points a game, he decided to make the jump from player to coach. Those accolades helped him land in the WNMU Athletic Hall of Fame, as he will be inducted in 2015.Â
As the head assistant, Enriquez’s main responsibilities are recruiting, on court coaching, monitoring academics , and being in charge of player individual workouts. He is also very instrumental in preparing the team for contests by coaching the scout team.
He is married to Jessica Enriquez.Â
