Angela Corliss

Angela Corliss returned to her alma mater in 2007 after two years as an assistant softball coach at California State University - Monterey Bay. After a few seasons as an assistant, Corliss became head coach for the 2012 season and will begin her sixth season as head coach in 2017. A former standout in the circle for the Lady Mustangs, Corliss was recently inducted into the WNMU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015. Entering the 2017 season, Corliss is just five wins away from 100 in her career.

The Lady Mustangs flirted with making the RMAC Postseason during the 2016 season, sitting in the top-eight before the last weekend of the season. Facing some of the top teams in the conference over the last two weeks of the year, the Lady Mustangs ended up finishing ninth, just missing a tournament spot. One of the top wins of the season came against Dixie State, ranked No. 2 in the nation at the time, the Lady Mustangs took the 6-5 win in St. George. Another win over a nationally-ranked team came against No. 25 CSU-Monterey Bay, 3-1. WNMU added a four-game sweep of New Mexico Highlands and also a win over RMAC powerhouse MSU Denver. Mariangela Garcia and Alicia Enriquez were both named to the All-RMAC Team.

The 2015 season saw the Lady Mustangs compete with the best in the RMAC, nearly going all the way to the championship game. WNMU collected the seventh-seed in the RMAC Tournament and put on a show winning their opening game against second-seed Colorado Mesa. They then came back from a tough extra inning setback to defeat CSU-Pueblo and then nearly took out nationally-ranked, top-seed and host MSU Denver before bowing out being edged out by a run. Senior Stephanie Higgins concluded her career strong being named to the All-Tournament Team. The 23 wins were the most for the team since 2011 when they also won two games in the conference tournament.

Coach Corliss helped guide the Lady Mustangs back to the RMAC Tournament in 2013 with the team collecting 19 wins and nearly defeating top-seed Colorado Mines on their home field in the first round. Three players were named to the All-RMAC Team and three more were also recognized on the All-RMAC Academic squads.

Corliss, a 2005 WNMU graduate, had a stellar career in the circle as a Mustang. As a freshman, she dominated opposing hitters, earning a 1.1 earned run average (ERA) with 197 strikeouts in just 172 innings pitched.

As a sophomore she posted a 23-5 record with a .95 ERA and an amazing 264 strikeouts in 209 innings. For this, she earned PacWest Pitcher of the Year honors.

Her junior year yielded her best numbers yet as she was named the PacWest Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive time, striking out 318 batters in 226 innings while having an ERA of .84.

Amazingly her numbers went down again her senior year. A .50 ERA in 302 innings pitched and a .142 opponent batting average, Corliss earned received PacWest Pitcher of the Year for the third time and MVP of the West Regional Tournament held in Arcadia, California.

Originally from Bloomfield, New Mexico, Corliss earned her Bachelor's Degree in zoology and her Masters in Business Administration in 2011.
