Tyler Tafoya is starting his fourth year as the assistant coach at Western New Mexico for the 2018-19 season.
Tafoya began his coaching career in the 2014-15 season as the assistant boys basketball coach at Wasatch Academy in Mount Pleasant, Utah, where his team went 17-9 in his first season. In his second season the Wasatch Tigers would finish 29-3, ranked #14 in the country. The team earned a berth in the Dicks National High School Tournament, where they eventually lost to the National Champions, Oak Hill Academy (VA).
A native of El Paso, TX, Tafoya played collegiately at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) from 2009-2014. During his freshman season Tafoya played under head coach Tony Barbee, and four seasons under Tim Floyd, redshirting during the 2011-12 season due to injury. Tafoya graduated from UTEP in 2014, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Communication with a minor in Business.
