Coach Rodney Lawson moves from player to coach during the 2017 season as he will join the WNMU coaching staff as the running backs coach.
Lawson played in 10 games as a senior, as he caught 45 passes for 510 yards and two touchdowns. He caught a long pass of 64 yards and he averaged 51 yards per game. He also returned 17 punts for 109 yards, with a long of 14 yards. Lawson also returned three kicks for 52 yards. He also rushed three times for 21 yards, with a long of 40 yards and also added a 64-yard pass completion. He brought down a season-high nine passes and 136 yards against Angelo State. He caught a TD pass against both Eastern New Mexico and Texas A&M-Commerce.
Prior to arriving at WNMU to finish his playing career, Coach Lawson spent a season at the University of Nevada playing in 11 games and starting one. He returned a pair of kicks for 52 yards and caught one pass for five yards. He started his playing career at the City College of San Francisco where he played two seasons and was part of the NorCal Conference Championship team. He snagged 35 passes for 564 yards and three touchdowns.
