Buddy Blevins

Western New Mexico University and Head Football Coach Frank Tristan is proud to announce the hiring of James "Buddy" Blevins as the Mustangs new Offensive Coordinator. Blevins will also serve as a Recruiting Coordinator and the Wide Receivers coach.

Blevins was previously coaching at Fort Valley State University, in 2019, with a record of 6-4.

We are really excited to add Buddy to our coaching staff. He is an outstanding football mind and a great developer of football players “ said Tristan.  “Most importantly, Buddy and his wife Morgan have a genuine care for their players. I am excited for the future of WNMU Football with the Blevins!”

Coach Blevins has quite a bit of coaching experience as well as playing in the Indoor Football League (IFL), Canadian Indoor Football League (CIF), and the Arena Football League (AFL).

Blevins started his coaching career at his alma mater, Colorado-Mesa University (CMU), in 2011. Moving up to the Division I level, in 2012, Blevins found himself at University of Northern Colorado.

The CIF called his name as he played for Oklahoma Defenders and briefly coached for them in 2014. After the Defenders season concluded, Blevins coached for Lone Star Conference (LSC) foes, Midwestern State University in 2014 and, in 2015, at Texas A&M Kingsville, before spending three seasons at Oklahoma Panhandle State University.

In 2018, Trinity International University was Blevins home for a year where he was a part of the NAIA single game passing record with 732 passing yards in a game.

Originally from Wildwood, Missouri, Blevins found himself playing Wide Receiver for CMU. In 2011, Blevins graduated with a degree in History.

Growing up, Coach Blevins was a triplet. He has a brother, named Woody, who coaches college football, as defensive coordinator at Assumption University and a sister, Cassie, who resides in Oklahoma City.

In his spare time, he likes to read, hike, and enjoys doing a variety of different outdoor activities.
