Wilson goes from Mustang player to coach during the 2017 season after playing four years for WNMU. He will be in charge of a familiar area with defensive backs this season.

During his senior season he garnered Lone Star Conference Second-Team honors after finishing fourth on the team in tackles with 57, 31 coming solo. His three interceptions and 11 passes defended both led the team. He also added two tackles for loss and a fumble recovery. Wilson started all 11 games this season and added a punt return touchdown that went for 36 yards against UT Permian Basin. His interceptions came against Tarleton State, Angelo State and Texas A&M-Kingsville. He posted a season-high nine tackles against Eastern New Mexico and two pass breakups versus Eastern New Mexico, Oklahoma Panhandle and West Texas A&M.

As a junior in 2015, Wilson was tabbed to the All-RMAC honorable mention team and to the D2CCA All-Region squad during his junior campaign. He was third on the team in tackles with 58, including 35 solo. He led the team in tackles for loss with 13, interceptions with three and was second on the team in sacks with three. Of his three interception returns, two went for touchdowns. He also added three pass breakups, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. He snagged two RMAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. He ranked 39th nationally and third in the RMAC in fumbles recovered and 89th and fourth in the RMAC in tackles for loss per game (1.2).

He became a force on the team as a sophomore in 2014 as he played in all 11 games in the Mustang secondary, posting 42 total tackles, 27 solo, along with two tackles for loss, two sacks, two pass breakups, three passes defended, a quarterback hurry and one forced fumble. He had a high in tackles with seven against Adams State, in that same game he also recorded both sacks. 

Wilson saw action as a true freshman in 2013 when he posted 23 total tackles, 16 solo stops, one tackle for loss, one sack, one interception and he also had a pass breakup and two passes defended.
