GOODYEAR, AZ. - Western New Mexico women's golf team finishes day one of the RJGA Shootout at Estrella in 11th place. The Mustangs top performer was Corynn Speer (Alamogordo, NM/Alamogordo, HS) who ended the day with an even-par 72, placing tied for sixth overall. Out of 16 teams at the tournament, the Mustangs are tied for 10th place after the opening round.
In Speer's opening round 72, she shot four birdies along the way, tied for second in the tournament. Falyn Lackey (Hobbs, NM/Hobbs High School) shot two birdies of her own en route to an opening round score of 78, putting her tied for 47th on the day. Erin Turner (Deming, NM/Deming HS) hit an 80 on her opening day round, placing her tied for 60th.
Other Mustang golfers on the day include Nicole Jasso (Deming, NM/Deming High School) who shot a score of 82 along with a birdie of her own, as well as Kelly Peden (El Paso, TX/Eastwood High School) who scored an 83. Jasso and Peden after the round sit at tied for 70th and tied for 73rd. One more Mustang golfer competed as an individual, Cheyenne Lane (Alamogordo, NM/Alamogordo High School) who sits in 87th place, shooting a 94.
The Mustangs will tee off tomorrow at 8am for the second and final round of the RJGA Shootout at Estrella, looking to climb the leaderboards.Â
