SILVER CITY, N.M. - Western New Mexico University Football and Head Coach Billy Hickman announced on National Signing Day 2026 the addition of 49 new student-athletes in this recruiting class, adding size, speed, and depth across every position group. The Mustangs also brought in 17 spring transfers.
""We're extremely proud of our 2026 recruiting class and the work our staff put into bringing in young men who fit our culture on and off the field" said Head Coach Billy Hickman. "This group adds size, speed, and competitiveness across the board, and more importantly, they bring the character and work ethic that will represent WNMU the right way. We're excited about how this class raises the standard and builds depth for the future of Mustang Football."
The class features strong representation on both sides of the ball, with an emphasis on building the offensive and defensive fronts. The Mustangs signed 13 offensive linemen and seven defensive linemen, reinforcing the program's commitment to physicality and line play. The defensive unit was further bolstered with seven linebackers and seven defensive backs, adding versatility and competition at all three levels of the defense.Â
Offensively, the Mustangs added skill talent at multiple positions, including seven wide receivers, two running backs, and two tight ends. Three quarterbacks were signed, providing depth and long-term development at the most important position on the field.Â
This spring the Mustangs brought in 11 defensemen and six on the offensive side of the ball. The defensive additions in this spring transfer class add toughness, depth, and athleticism at every level of the unit. With experienced linebackers, versatile defensive backs, and added size along the defensive line, the Mustangs strengthen their ability to stop the run, apply pressure, and improve coverage across the field heading into the season.Â
The offensive additions in this spring transfer class bring immediate versatility, experience, and explosiveness to the Mustangs' attack. With key additions at quarterback, wide receiver, running back, and along the offensive line, WNMU adds proven playmakers and much-needed size up front to enhance both the passing game and run protection heading into the season.
Geographically, the recruiting class reflects a strong regional footprint while also expanding the program's reach. Arizona led the way with 24 signees, followed by California and Texas with 12, and New Mexico with 11. WNMU also added talent from Louisiana, New York and Washington, continuing to establish the Mustangs as a destination for student-athletes across the Southwest and West Coast.Â
