Western New Mexico University student-athlete Breelee Nichols has been appointed to serve on the NCAA Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), representing the Lone Star Conference at the national level.
Nichols, a member of the WNMU women's basketball program, will begin her term on January 18, 2026, and serve through January 13, 2029. In her role as an NCAA Division II National SAAC member and Lone Star Conference representative, Nichols will help provide the student-athlete perspective on issues impacting Division II athletics across the country.
"Breelee's appointment reflects her dedication to leadership and service beyond competition," said WNMU Athletic Director Matt Enriquez. "We are excited to see the perspective she will bring to the NCAA Division II SAAC and the positive impact she will have on student-athletes across the country."
The NCAA Division II SAAC is composed of student-athletes from conferences nationwide and serves as a key advisory group to NCAA governance. Committee members are tasked with offering feedback on legislation, policies, and initiatives while advocating for the overall well-being, academic success, and competitive experience of Division II student-athletes.
As a committee member, Nichols will participate in regular meetings and conference calls, contribute to national discussions, and collaborate with fellow representatives to advance the NCAA's mission, values, and reputation. She will also serve as a liaison between Division II leadership and student-athletes within the Lone Star Conference, helping ensure their voices are heard at the national level.
Nichols' appointment reflects both her leadership qualities and her commitment to representing student-athletes beyond the court. Balancing the demands of collegiate athletics with national service responsibilities requires a high level of professionalism, preparation, and ethical standards—expectations outlined by the NCAA for all committee members.
Western New Mexico University and the Lone Star Conference will be represented nationally through Nichols' service, highlighting the impact and leadership of WNMU student-athletes within NCAA Division II governance.
Her appointment marks a significant achievement for Nichols and underscores WNMU Athletics' ongoing commitment to student-athlete leadership, involvement, and representation at the national level.
