SILVER CITY, N.M. — Western New Mexico University (9-3, 3-2 Lone Star) fell to #24 Eastern New Mexico University (12-1, 5-0 Lone Star), in a 93-85 defeat on Sunday at Drag's Court.
Western opened the game with an efficient shooting display from beyond the arc, hitting five 3-pointers in the first half.
Isaiah Broady (Chandler, AZ/Arizona Compass Prep) contributed significantly with a key 3-pointer at the 4:37 mark, assisted by
Cortaviaus Seales (Rock Island, IL/North Scott High School), to extend their lead. Despite seven lead changes, the Mustangs maintained control with a 36–33 advantage over Eastern at the end of the half, aided by solid free throw shooting, converting 9 of 11 attempts.
Western initially maintained a lead in the second half, bolstered by Broady's consecutive free throws at 19:23. Despite their efforts, including a key defensive rebound by Broady at 17:49, the Greyhounds responded with a series of successful layups, regaining and extending the lead.
Midway through the half, the Mustangs managed to draw even at 67–67 with
Andre Harris's (Mesa, AZ/Hillcrest Prep) tip-in at 7:09. However, Eastern surged ahead with a series of fast-break points and free throws, culminating in a 60-point second half to secure a 93-85 victory.
Seales led the team with 24 points, including three 3-pointers, and contributed five assists.
Keylon Dorsey (Houston, TX/Eisenhower High School) added 16 points, converting six of seven field goal attempts and four of five from beyond the arc. Broady scored 14 points and recorded seven free throws, while also collecting seven rebounds.
Quincy Adams (Frisco, TX/Hamilton High School) contributed with six rebounds and scored six points.
Cooper Jackson led the Greyhounds with 25 points, making 9 of 11 field goals and adding six free throws. He also contributed five assists and three steals. Mo Austin followed with 24 points, converting 12 of 14 free throws and grabbing six rebounds. Jose Murillo added 19 points, connecting on five field goals and nine free throws, while also collecting five rebounds. Austin Abrams contributed 12 points, making six of 11 field goal attempts and securing four rebounds.
The Mustangs stand at 9-3 overall and 3-2 in Lone Star Conference play. Eastern holds a 12-1 overall record and remains undefeated at 5-0 in the Lone Star Conference.
