SILVER CITY, N.M. - The Western New Mexico University volleyball team has been selected 15th in the 2025 Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll, the league office announced this morning. Voting was conducted among the conference's head coaches, sports information directors, and select media representatives.
Angelo State topped the poll with 933 points and 30 of the 54 available first-place votes, edging out West Texas A&M for the preseason No. 1 spot. ASU junior outside hitter Madi Parrish was also named the LSC Preseason Player of the Year.
For Western New Mexico, three student-athletes earned recognition as Players to Watch. Senior outside hitter Carley Deck (Tucson, AZ/Tanque Verde High School) was named the Mustangs' Offensive Player to Watch, while junior libero Mikelle McAfee garnered Defensive Player to Watch honors. Freshman setter Kiara McDuffie (Aubrey, TX/Braswell High School) rounds out the Mustang selections as the Setter to Watch for 2025.
The Mustangs open their season Sept. 5-6 at Drag's Court, hosting the Mustang Volleyball Invitational.
