Ribeiro and Alcorta Lead WNMU Charge at Men's RJGA Palm Valley Classic

GOODYEAR, Ariz. - After two rounds of play at the RJGA Men's Palm Valley Classic, the Western New Mexico University men's golf team is in a competitive position heading into the final round. The Mustangs posted rounds of 277 and 293 for a two-round team total of 570 (-6), placing them tied for 10th overall in a talented field.

Tomas Ribeiro (Porto Seguro, BR/Evolução Centro HS) has led the way, firing a 69 (-3) in Round 1 followed by a 72 (E) in Round 2 to sit at -3 overall, tied for 19th place individually. 

Jacob Alcorta (Silver City/Silver HS) opened strong with a 68 (-4) and followed with a 74 (+2), ending the day at -2, tied for 24th. 

Max Kaesebier (Bad Langensalza, Germany/Pierre-de-Coubertin Gymnasium) showed consistency with a 70 (-2) in Round 1 and a 74 (+2) in Round 2, finishing even par, tied for 44th.

Arnav Arkanath (Milton Keynes, GB/Sir Henry Floyd HS) contributed solidly with back-to-back 73s (+1 each) for a +2 total, while Oscar Feschuk (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/St. Michael's College School) posted a strong 70 (-2) on Day 1 before a tougher 76 (+4) in Round 2, also ending at +2. Both Arkanath and Feschuk are tied for 60th.

Individually, Jayden Schmitz (Oro Valley, AZ/Ironwood Ridge HS) bounced back after a difficult first round, shooting 77 (+5) and then responding with an impressive 70 (-2) in Round 2 to sit +3, tied for 69th. Jack Wadsworth (Plain City, UT/Fremont HS) carded a 79 (+7) and 77 (+5) to finish at +12, tied for 97th.

The Mustangs will look to climb the leaderboard during Tuesday's final round, which begins with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start at Palm Valley Golf Club.
