Women's Basketball Looks To Get On Track To Start 2026

The Western New Mexico University women's basketball team returns to action this week as it opens the 2026 calendar year with a pair of Lone Star Conference matchups, beginning with West Texas A&M on January 2, followed by an in-state rivalry game against Eastern New Mexico on January 4.

The Mustangs enter the week still searching for their first win of the season at 0–9 overall and 0–3 in conference play, but history suggests opportunity ahead. WNMU last defeated West Texas A&M during the 2022-23 season and will look to rediscover that success as it opens the weekend. The rivalry matchup with Eastern New Mexico adds another layer of intensity, as the Mustangs are 3–7 over the last 10 meetings with the Greyhounds.

Last season's series against ENMU was split, with WNMU earning a road victory in January before falling at home in February 2025. As conference play continues, the Mustangs will aim to turn close contests into results and build momentum heading deeper into the LSC schedule.

On Friday, January 2nd against West Texas, tip-off will be at 5:00pm MT and on Sunday, January 4th against Eastern New Mexico, tip-off is at 12:00pm. Both games will be at Drags Court, in Silver City, NM.
