Mustangs Respond in a Big Way, Defeat Fort Lewis in Rematch

Box Score DURANGO, CO — Western New Mexico secured a 95-86 victory over Fort Lewis College on Thursday at Whalen Gymnasium.

The Mustangs capitalized on free throws, going 38-for-45 from the line, which contributed significantly to their scoring. The Skyhawks maintained a strong presence in the paint with 44 points, but the Mustangs' advantage at the charity stripe helped seal the win in front of 894 attendees.

Western New Mexico opened the first half with a strong performance, taking the lead early with a 3-pointer by Carson Kelly (Chandler, AZ/Chandler High School) at 18:54. Keylon Dorsey (Houston, TX/Eisenhower High School) contributed significantly from the free-throw line, scoring four points in quick succession to extend their advantage. Despite Fort Lewis's efforts to close the gap, the Mustangs maintained their edge, bolstered by Kelly's shooting and Andre Harris's (Mesa, AZ/Hillcrest Prep) defensive rebounds. The half concluded with Western New Mexico leading 41-37.

The Mustangs established momentum early in the second half with an Isaiah Broady (Chandler, AZ/Arizona Compass Prep) dunk, assisted by Harris, to extend their lead. Despite Fort Lewis closing the gap multiple times, Western New Mexico maintained their edge, thanks in part to Kelly's consecutive three-pointers around the 4:19 mark, which helped push the lead further. Dorsey's assist set up Broady for a crucial 3-pointer at 11:47, contributing to the Mustangs' scoring surge. They solidified their lead in the closing minutes with Nolan Brown's free throws, resulting in a 95–86 finish. The game concluded with the Mustangs securing a nine-point victory over the Skyhawks.

Kelly scored 23 points, including four 3-pointers, and added four rebounds. Broady contributed 16 points and collected six rebounds. Harris posted 15 points, recorded 11 rebounds, and blocked four shots, providing a strong defensive presence. Brown converted all six of his free throw attempts and made three steals.

The next match for the Mustangs is at 5:00pm MT against Colorado Mesa University on Saturday, November 22nd in Durango, Colorado at the Whalen Gymnasium.
