4/9/2024 4:15:00 PM

GOODYEAR, Ari. - The Western New Mexico Men's Golf Team finished up the RJGA Palm Valley Classic hosted by Palm Valley GC on Tuesday afternoon. Thanks to red hot performances by multiple Mustangs, WNMU took home 2nd place at (-31), 278-278-277-833. This was a new 36 holes program low score for the Mustangs, as they beat the previous record set in March.

"Another stunning performance by the Mustangs. -31 is a new 36 holes program low score, beating the record set in March in California," said Assistant Coach Harry O'Callaghan. "A toe to toe battle with the current #7 team in the nation, both teams putting on a stripe show all week."

Adam Niles (Kamloops, BC/Valley View Secondary HS) would continue his hot streak by taking home the tournament title with almost three straight rounds in the 60s to earn him his first collegiate tournament win. He finished at (-13), 67-66-70-203, with 14 birdies and two eagles for his Palm Valley. Arnav Arkanath (Milton Keyes, GB/Sir Henry Floyd HS) would give Niles a run for his money as he finished T-4th at (-10), 70-66-70-206. Arkanath sunk 17 birdies.

T-13th was Tomas Ribeiro (Porto Seguro, BR/Evolução Centro HS) at (-6), 68-73-69-210. Ribeiro recorded 12 birdies and an eagle. Joey Geary (Phoenix, AZ/Sunnyslope HS) finishes T-23rd at (-2), 73-73-68-214. Geary made nine birdies and an eagle through three rounds.

Max Kaesebier (Bad Langensalza, Germany/Pierre-de-Coubertin Gymnasium) rounds out the Mustangs lineup, T-61st (+4), 75-73-72-220 had an eagle with seven birdies. Individual Jack Wadsworth (Plain City, UT/Fremont HS) finished T-98th at (+16), 81-76-75-232. Wadsworth was good for four birdies.

"Not to take away from the teams brilliant play, but this will go down as the week Adam Niles (Kamloops, BC/Valley View Secondary HS) won his first college tournament," said O'Callaghan. "I couldn't be happier or more proud of Adam and how he played this week. Elite level golf, from an all around exceptional guy. Years of doing the right things came to fruition in style, fully deserved and awesome to watch."

#7 Colorado Christian fended off the Mustangs for the tournament title at (-37).

Niles was able to hold of Fort Lewis' Ron Kildall at (-12) and Colorado Christian's Bradley Mulder at (-11).
