Geary, Arkanath Lead Mustangs To 6th At Hot Dirt Desert Shootout

GOODYEAR, Ari. - The Western New Mexico University Men's Golf team finished up the Hot Dirt Desert Shootout at the Golf Club of Estrella on Saturday morning. The Mustangs finished in 6th at (+8), 294-290-584.

"We played really good today, but some teams played great," said Assistant Coach Harry O'Callaghan. "Those fine margins are the difference and we are still getting into those margins."

Senior Joey Geary (Phoenix, AZ/Sunnyslope HS) lead the way with a scorching second round performance vaulting him into 8th place at (-2), 73-69-142. Geary was good for eight birdies. Right behind him is Arnav Arkanath (Milton Keyes, GB/Sir Henry Floyd HS), T-9th at (-1), 71-72-143. Arkanath had seven birdies and an eagle.

Max Kaesebier (Bad Langensalza, Germany/Pierre-de-Coubertin Gymnasium) finishes T-43rd at (+6), 73-77-150. Kaesebier made six birdies. T-49th is Adam Niles (Kamloops, BC/Valley View Secondary HS) at (+7), 79-72-151. Niles recorded four birdies for the tournament. Tomas Ribeiro (Porto Seguro, BR/Evolução Centro HS) rounds out the lineup at (+10), 77-77-154. Ribeiro sunk four birdies.

Colorado Christian won the tournament at (-10). Dallas Baptist placed second at (-6). UTPB and CSU San Bernardino holds third at (-3).

Sam Jenkins of Dallas Baptist took home the hardware at (-8). Tied in second place was Adam Duncan of Colorado Christian and Chris Chomyn of CSU Stanislaus at (-6).

The Mustangs will be back in action on Monday April 8th for the RJGA Palm Valley Classic.
