LOS LUNAS, NM – The mustangs took on day one of the South Central Regional Crossover hosted by WNMU in Los Lunas, NM. Facing New Mexico Highlands in their first game of the day, they would fall to NMHU 2-7. After taking a loss in the morning, they would recover their momentum with a dominating win over Adams State next with the score reading 9-3.

GAME ONE:

NMHU would get things started with the first score up on the board from an error play. Following the play, K. Banegas hit a double to Center field for a second run by NMHU to end the first inning.

NMHU found ways to hit doubles in the 3rd inning, 5th inning, 6th inning, and 7th inning to give the team 5 more runs over the Mustangs. WNMU scored late in the last inning by Mustangs newcomer Ana Armijo (Albuquerque, NM/Volcano Vista HS). Following the error play, Aryana Munoz (Dexter, New Mexico/Dexter High School) would round 3rd base hard to score a second time in the inning after a double hit from Adlai Alvidrez (El Paso, TX/Americas HS).

Kamerynn Cordova (Fowler, CA/Fowler HS) started on the mound for the Mustangs and pitched 4.0 IP, 7 H, and force 21 AB.

GAME TWO:

The Mustangs gave up 2 runs to start their second game of the day to Adams State. They went on to take the lead in the inning 3-2 after a double by Madeline Bleak (Mesa, AZ/Mountain View HS) and a pitching error to allow a advancement for Kaylee Hickman (Cloudcroft, NM/Cloudcroft High School) from third base.

WNMU scored again in the 2nd inning after Hickman doubled up the middle to bring in A. Armijo.

Much scoring happened for the Mustangs in the 6th inning to give them a comfortable lead over Adams State. Bleak brought in two more runs after a single to left field. Fossum singled to right field and brought in Hickman. Following that, Jenna Peters (Lake Elsinore, CA/Temescal Canyon HS) had her first major hit of the day to give the Mustangs two more RBIs.

Labraida Tenorio (Rio Rancho, NM/Rio Rancho HS) was the game's winning pitcher for the Mustangs after pitching 7.0 IP, just 3 Hs, only allowing 3 Rs, and 6 Ks.
