Mustangs Take Close Road Victory

KINGSVILLE, TX – While on the road, the Mustangs took the reins late in the 4th Quarter to give the team a lead over the TAMUK Javelinas and grab a close victory 57-55.

Both Sydney Wright (Houston, Texas/Henley High School) and Larissa Laborin (Las Cruces, New Mexico/Centennial High School) shared an incredible shooting game as they each put up double figures for the Mustangs tieing one another for the team's leading scorer today.

Overall, the team shot a much higher 3pt percentage knocking down 4 of their 10 attempts. They made 1.4 percent more on their attempted FGs than the Javelinas as well.

Defensively, Brooke Rodgers (Phoenix, Arizona/Cactus Shadows High School) stepped up for WNMU as she picked up a block and 4 defensive glasses. Following her performance was Diamond Moore (Colorado Springs, CO/Harrison High School), who picked off a steal for the Mustangs and grabbed 6 defensive boards.

Other notable performances included 8 pts for Alina Simon (Killeen, TX/Ellison High School) (4-5FGs), 2 steals/2 blocks from Eliza Joynes (Adelaide, South Australia/Henley Sports Academy), and 8 pts for Jade Goynes (Fort Worth, TX/North Crowley High School), who had a season high 50 FG percentage.

"Feels good to get a quality win against a quality opponent", stated Coach Josh Pace. "This was a very tough atmosphere to play in. Our team showed resiliency and toughness tonight in a close game. Very proud of them"

After trailing to Kingsville at the half, the Mustangs put on a spectacular shooting display in the 3rd quarter. Although the Javelinas would answer back with full court pressure in the final minutes of play, the Mustangs would prevail.

WNMU looks to pick up another conference win on the road as they face Texas A&M International on Saturday. TAMIU was ranked as high as 3rd in the region earlier this season, so it will be a tough battle for the Mustangs as they try to keep their momentum going from tonight's victory.
