SILVER CITY, N.M. – The Western New Mexico University Men's Basketball team hosted the Aggies of Cameron. Cameron would win a close battler 84-76.
This puts the Mustangs at 3-10 (1-7).
Four Mustangs managed double-digits on the Aggies.
Prosper Obidiebube (Houston, TX/Aspire Academy) scored a season-high 21 points. Fellow Mustang
Cortaviaus Seales (Rock Island, IL/North Scott High School) dropped 20 as well.
Allen Fordham (Far Rockaway, NY/Queens High School For Technology) and
LaMarqus Merchant Jr. (Utica, NY/Utica Academy of Science) added 13 and 12 apiece.
Rebounding and a hot night from deep for Cameron would prove fatal to the Mustangs. The Aggies outrebounded the Mustangs 37-26.
Mustangs shot 11-31 (35%) from the field and 1-4 (25%) from deep in the first half. WNMU finished the game shooting 26-69 (37%) and 5-13 (38%) from three. Cameron would shoot 29-56 (51%) from the field and 10-26 (38%) from behind the arc for the game.
At the charity stripe WNMU went 19-23 (82%) and Cameron shot 16-19 (84%).
On the boards, Obidiebube snagged nine rebounds. Merchant Jr. dished out five assists.
In the defensive department, Seales and Merchant Jr. were both good for four steals.
The Mustangs began the first half a slow start plagued the Mustangs early, but eventually they would settle in a began trading the lead with the Aggies. Cameron went into the break up five, 41-36.
In the second half Cameron came out firing on all cylinders, building up their lead to 16 at the 12-minute mark. The Mustangs slowly chipped away at the lead thanks to Seales. Ultimately Cameron would take the game 84-76.
Jaylan Thomas dropped 21 points for the Aggies. Andre Washington added 17.
