PORTALES, N.M. – On Thursday evening, the Western New Mexico University Volleyball Team continued play in the LSC Preview, with a matchup against the Mustangs of Midwestern State (MSU). WNMU would prevail 3-1 over MSU.

Tonight's offensive catalyst was no other than
Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy HS) leading both teams with 19 kills.
Janey Cortez (El Paso, TX/East Lake HS) added 15 kills and
Maria Osorio (Pereira, Colombia/Calasanz) added 10 kills as well. Letícia Correa was diming all over the place with 43 assists. Correa also led the Mustangs with two aces.Â
Cortez was the Mustang's defensive mastermind tonight with 17 digs.
Lilouann Bechec (Cannes, France) added 16 digs of her own. Correa added 14 digs as well.
Naomi Kimble (Animas, NM/Animas HS) was a force upfront with 3.5 blocks on the night.Â

WNMU started things off quickly in set one. Jumping out to a 10-6. From there the Mustangs would run away with the set 25-14, thanks to a kill from Osorio to seal the set.

WNMU 1, MSU 0.
In set two, WNMU came out leading early again, 8-4. MSU tied things up at 15s before WNMU could settle back in and reextended the by three. A kill from Walker would put away MSU, 25-21

WNMU 2, MSU 0.

For set number three, the Mustangs of MSU played their set yet. MSU were able to take a 14-12 lead on the Mustangs halfway through the back-and-forth set. After being tied ar 21s, MSU did not look back, scoring the next four points for a 25-21 win.

Set four came off with WNMU starting off strong again, leading 15-7 over MSU. MSU would bring the game within four points before WNMU rattled off a 9-0 run. WNMU took set four 25-18 for the match.

The Mustangs will play their final match of the weekend tomorrow at 2:00 PM MT against Cameron.
