LAREDO, TX - Saturday afternoon, the Western New Mexico University Mustangs fell 2-1 against Texas A&M International at Dustdevil Softball field in Laredo, TX.
TAMIU jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the 1st inning. A leadoff walk led to a score after Tajanae Davis hit a ground ball RBI. TAMIU led 1-0.
In the top of the 2nd inning, Silver city native Lisa Lucero (Silver City, NM/Silver HS) hit an RBI single to right field. WNMU tied the game up at 1-1.
The Dustdevils retook the lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning after a walk and two hits. Davis continued her tear, hitting a ground ball RBI. TAMIU led 2-1.
WNMU had opportunities late but could not get a run across.
Getting the start for the Mustangs was Jasmin Kirby (Surprise, AZ/State Farm Stadium HS). She is now (0-2) on the year after going 3..0 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 1 K, and 4 BB. Kamerynn Cordova (Fowler, CA/Fowler HS) finished out the game throwing, 3.0 IP, 2 K, and 2 BB.
The Dustdevils started Tessa Rameriz. She is now (1-1) on the year. She went 4.0 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 2 K, and 2 HBP. Erika Cortez finished out the game and got her first save of the year after 3.0 IP, 1 H, 2 K, and 1 BB.
