SILVER CITY, N.M. - The
Western New Mexico Football Team hosted #18 UTPB this weekend, looking to upset the top team in the conference. The Mustangs lost 56-3.
The Mustangs Quarterback
Hunter Davis (Portland, OR) completed 12 of 21 passes for 77 yards and 2 interceptions (IN/Ts),
Deuce Zimmerman (Anchorage, AK/East Anchorage HS) lead the Mustangs in receptions with two for 35 yards.
Jeremiah Hartfield (Montebello, CA/Schurr HS) added three catches for 25 yards.
On the ground
Marcus Higgs (Los Angeles, CA/Warren HS) lead with seven carries for 24 yards.
James Hoban (Parker, AZ/Parker HS) added six rushes for 12 yards.
Cole Lalama (Queen Creek, AZ/) had 13 tackles, including eight solo.
Jyrei Gamble (Maricopa, AZ/Sequoia Pathway Academy) recorded nine tackles as well.
In the first quarter, UTPB would get things started with a touchdown pass from Kenny Hrncir to Deon Cook towards the end of the 1
st quarter for a 7-0. Lead.
Kicking off the second quarter, Hrncir hit Ben Patterson from 24-yards to make it 14-0. Hrncir would then find Cook again in the back of the endzone for a 21-0 advantage. The Falcons still were not done their, as Gunnar Abseck to a five-yard pass from Hrncir for six, 28-0 UTPB. To and the half, the Falcons Hrncir connected with Traylen Suel for his fifth TD of the first half, 35-0 UTPB.
For the third quarter, the Falcons tacked on another score, courtesy of a 12-yard run by Kory Harris, 42-0.
In the fourth quarter, Nemier Herod took one from 73-yards to extend the lead to 49-0. Wilson Batiste capped off the Falcons scoring for the day with a one-yard TD run, 56-0 UTPB.
Tanner Bobic (Glendale, AZ/Deer Valley HS) got the Mustangs on the board with a 42-yard field goal with three minutes to go, 56-3.
UTPB's Hrncir lead the passing attack going 14-21 for 219 yards and 5 TDs. Nemier March ran through WNMU with 10 attempts for 121 yards and 1 TD. Harris added 17 carries for 113 yards and 1 TD. Gunnar Abseck was the top WR on the afternoon with four catches for 53-yards and 1 TD.
The Mustangs will host Eastern New Mexico next weekend for the Green Chile Bowl, Nov. 11
th (12:00 PM MST).
