Buzzer Beater Stretches Mustangs Winning Streak to 5-0

Silver City, NM – Facing their first Conference Matchup for the season, the Mustangs took the victory to St. Mary's in the last few seconds of game. With the clock running down, Milan Tuttle (Oakland, California/Heritage High School) shot a desperate three to give the team a 3-point lead and leave with the dub with the final score reading 62-59.

Eliza Joynes (Adelaide, South Australia/Henley Sports Academy) had the best performance overall today as she shot 6-7 from the field and put up 15 points for the Mustangs. She also possessed a steal and grabbed 5 boards, helping the mustangs combine for a total of 37 rebounds.

Sydney Wright (Houston, Texas/Henley High School) led the Mustangs in scoring yet again, putting up 16 points and was perfect 3-3 from the line.

Diamond Moore (Colorado Springs, CO/Harrison High School) showed her strength against the Rattlers under the basket, grabbing 6 boards defensively and 6 offensively (12 rebounds alone). She and Joynes also shot well on free throws, hitting 3 for 4.

Earning almost half of the assists was Brooke Rodgers (Phoenix, Arizona/Cactus Shadows High School), who managed to pocket 6 perfect passes to scoring positions.

The Mustangs could not seem to find their range against St. Mary's as they went 5-17 from the arc, but they found their stroke from the line shooting 11-15 on free throws.

They started the game off slow, allowing the Rattlers to take 9 point lead in just the first 2min of the first quarter. St. Mary's would go on to outscore the Mustangs by the end of the first quarter at 12-9.

The Rattlers also managed to hold on to their lead, outscoring the Mustangs by one in the 2nd Quarter. St. Mary's would stretch their lead to 34-30.

WNMU battled back and found opportunity to cut their deficit in the 3rd by shooting 83% from the line and hitting 3 of their perimeter shots. The mustangs took the lead for the first time and outscored the Rattlers by 9. 48-43 would be the score going into the 4th.

Both teams traded off the lead in the last quarter. Although the Rattlers scored more in the 4th, the Mustangs grabbed possession with just 6 seconds left on the clock and the game completely tied. Coach Josh Pace called one final time out before the end of the game. With Tuttle's final shot, WNMU won their 5th game in a row to continue their perfect streak.

WNMU will host the next matchup on Sat against St. Edwards at 12PM looking to keep their winning streak alive once more.
