CANYON, TEXAS – The Western New Mexico University Men's Basketball team continued their road trip with a game against West Texas A&M University. The Buffs would use a dominate second half to beat the Mustangs 85-57.
This puts the Mustangs at 9-6 (3-6).
One Mustangs would manage double-figures on the Buffs. Isaiah Lewis (Mansfield, TX) would score a game-high 15 points, including 8-10 from the charity stripe. Emmanuel white would add nine points on 4-8 from the field.
A rough shooting performance and turnovers would plague the Mustangs all night. WNMU would only manage to shoot 3-16 (19%) from downtown while the Buffs would go 12-34 (35%). The Mustangs would give up the ball 19 times and only be able to force 10 turnovers on the Buffs.
WNMU would also struggle at the charity stripe shooting 16-29 (55%) compared to the Buffs 21-28 (75%). The Mustangs would also be outrebounded 46-36 and outscored on the bench 38-24.
On the boards, Keith Littles (Augusta, GA/) led the way with six boards. Lewis and Ian Hohenstein (Veracruz, Mexico/Faith Christian Academy) added five each as well. Jaylin McFadden (Rockford, IL) would also add the only Mustang steal of the night.
In the first half the WNMU would shoot 38% from the field and 25% from behind the arc. WNMU would finish the game shooting 36% from the field and 19% from three. West Texas would shoot 39% for the game and 35% from behind the three-point line.
The Mustangs would start off the game well leading 16-11 at the 11:17 mark. That would be the last lead for the Mustangs, as the Buffs would take a 48-32 lead into the half. The second half would be all Buffs as they would outscore the Mustangs 37-25 to take an 85-57 victory.
Three Buffs would manage double-digits on the Mustangs. Julius Brown and Larry Wise lead the way with 13 point each. Damion Thornton added 12 points as well.
